Anstruther

The town of Anstruther (which includes Cellardyke) has a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants. Anstruther is home to the Scottish Fisheries Museum and, from the harbour, boat trips can be taken for sea angling or sightseeing to various areas of interest such as the Isle of May, a famous nature reserve where you can see puffins!

The area is renowned for attracting artists and musicians with open studio and musical events happening throughout the year.

For the more active there isĀ Anstruther Tennis Club, Elie Watersports Centre (sailing and generally messing about on the water) and the East Neuk Outdoors Centre (canoeing, abseiling etc) and there are also links directly into the Fife Coastal path offering walking opportunities across a wider area.

For the keen golfer, Fife is the home of golf and the Anstruther Golf Course voted toughest par 3 in the UK by Todays Golfer in September 2007. If that’s not enough there are another 45 courses a short drive away, including the infamous Old Course at St Andrews.

A special mention needs to go to the award winning Anstruther Fish Bar, which is reputed to have served many famous visitors, including Tom Hanks.

St Monans

St Monan’s once had two thriving boat yards; the largest being James N Miller & Sons. The yard started business in 1747 with generations of the Miller family living in Ivybank. The Miller boat yard built Fifer fishing boats and many prospective of their prospective buyers were entertained to tea & scones in the kitchen of Ivybank as they studied the plans for their new boats. In the 20th Century the Miller family extended their business into building solid, seaworthy sailing yachts. Sir Malcolm Campbell commissioned his yacht, Blue Bird, with the Miller Yard. Sadly, the yard closed in 1992 and boatbuilding is now only a part of St Monan’s history.

Set between Elie and Pittenweem and only 12 miles from St Andrews, St Monan’s is the smallest of the pretty fishing villages that make up the East Neuk of Fife. With beautiful harbour views, Elie’s sandy bay, a string of golf courses, watersports and the Fife Coastal Trail; perfect for walkers and cyclists alike, St Monan’s has a lot to offer alongside its sleepy, village pace.
